Clarion-Ledger: Obama "can motivate and inspire a nation"

The Mississippi Clarion-Ledger throws its support behind Obama in today's edition, while also acknowledging Clinton's strengths. This could provide a nice boost to Obama's performance in the Mississippi primary on Tuesday.

Sen. Obama is the best choice. He provides a broad vision that motivates not only minorities, but old and new Democrats of all stripes. He also is popular with independents and young, unaffiliated voters - giving Democrats their best shot for the White House.

Endorsement continues:

Clinton is highly qualified and has a solid record. But America needs a president who can motivate and inspire a nation which now is divided and demoralized by a sagging economy and foundering foreign policy.

For context, the Clarion-Ledger is the largest newspaper in Mississippi (I believe) with a Sunday circulation of about 110k, according to Wikipedia.

  After all Obama is no dynasty. He is a David jousting against a Goliath and Im not sure we even have a say.

  •  It's really the other way around...

    ...the party and the "deciders" in this - the super-delegates - read polls just as often as you do.  They're not stupid, and they know where the energized support, and the independents and crossover Republicans, go without Obama.

      I just keep working for Obama.I remember Kennedy, it was my first vote.

        Yes, these "powers-that-be" are throwing everything that they've got at us all.  And they will continue to do so.  But as Barack says "nothing can stop the power of millions of voices calling for change."

        He just won Wyoming 61-39.  Those are the same great numbers that he has been posting outside of the Clinton echo chamber.

        We are doing this.  And we are in this together.

          I love the list of Obama's 20+% margin wins vs. Clinton's. It's illustrative of the depth of their support: Obama wins many states by large margins. Clinton, not so much.

  •  When all is said and done...

    the margin she would have to make up in superdelegates will probably be almost insurmountable. I mean, if she's behind by 100+ delegates (which looks likely), she'd need to win over a huge percentage of the uncommitted supers, not just a narrow majority.

  and it's importance. And how rare it is to find it clearly articulated (and not just in politics). How else, without vision, will I know what direction I'm going in? What my goals are? How will I tell that they are met? How will I encourage myself to do hard work?

  haven't seen any stats, but doesn't it seem that Obama has received the bulk of the newspaper endorsements?  
   And it seems that every time he meets personally with an editorial board, he impresses.  His extrordinary talents are even more obvious one on one.

•  Local media.

  It's been really great to see local media across the country still taking their job seriously.  They sit down with the candidates and ask lots of substantive questions about the country.  How resfreshing!

  We should all consider subscribing to the local paper to keep this valuable grass-roots resource alive and well.
